Resolution: 2018-17

Title: Amend Article VIII Section 4 of the Constitution of the Department of Tennessee

WHEREAS, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution and Bylaws was last revised June 26, 2004; and

WHEREAS, The Department Adjutant will schedule Orientation Classes to be conducted in the three Grand Divisions prior to the Annual Department Convention for convenience of travel for the newly elected Department Officers and Department Membership Chairman; and

WHEREAS, The Department Membership Chairman has been excluded for orientation in the current version of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution; and

WHEREAS, District and Division Commanders are exhausted upon completion of the Department Convention due to their rigorous schedules during the event; and

WHEREAS, Orientation material is distributed to all newly elected District and Division Commanders on the date of their election; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, by Post 254, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on November 7, 2018, That Article VIII Section 4 of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution shall read; The newly elected Department Commander shall Call the newly appointed Department Membership Chairman and the newly elected Department Vice Commanders and District Commanders to its first meeting immediately following the adjournment of the Department Convention.  At this time, the Department Commander will either hold an orientation session or schedule orientation sessions to be held in the three Grand Divisions.   If the meetings are held in the Three Grand Divisions,  Therefore, the newly elected Department Commander, the Department Membership Chairman, the three Department Vice Commanders and the ten District Commanders, who are were elected and installed during the most recent Department Convention for the ensuing year will be allowed one-way round-trip mileage to and from the orientation site from the members respective Tennessee American Legion post of record
