Title: Amend Article II Section 2(b) of the Bylaws of the Department of Tennessee

WHEREAS, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee has scorecards dictating required activity for each District Commander; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution and Bylaws are the governing document for the Department and its’ members and officers; and
WHEREAS, Communication with respective districts and membership is critical to the success of The American Legion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by Post 254, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on September 5, 2019, That Article II Section 2(b) of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Bylaws shall read: "(b) The Department District Commanders shall act as representatives of the Department Commander and the Department Vice-Commanders on all matters referred to them by such officers, and shall perform such other duties as are usually incident to such office. Each District Commander, their appointed District Membership Chairman or District Adjutant shall visit each Post in their District not less than once during their year, and endeavor in all ways to promote membership in and the programs of The American Legion. The District Commander will be required to submit a report of such visit to the Department Adjutant, and a subsequent report to be submitted to the Department Executive Committee during the annual Mid-Winter Conference and the Department Convention.
(c) All Districts shall hold at least three meetings each calendar year. The first meeting following the Department Convention will be a Commander’s Tour. This meeting will introduce the newly elected Department Commander and their vision to the district. The second meeting will be the District Meeting, used to discuss any and all matters relating to the district. The third meeting will be the District Convention, whose purpose it is to elect the following year’s District Commander. The Department Headquarters may and shall, with the concurrence of District officers, designate and fix the dates upon which the District meetings shall be held, but nothing herein shall be construed to prohibit any of the Districts of this Department from holding other meetings at any other time or place, fixed and appointed by the officers of such Districts."
