Resolution: 2020-15
Title: Amend Article VII, Department Officers, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Department of Tennessee, establishing the Senior Vice Commander position
Origin: Department Constitution and Bylaws Committee
 
WHEREAS, An elected Department Senior Vice Commander would serve as the Department Commander’s protégé; and
 
WHEREAS, The delegates will have a voice as to whom will serve in this this capacity; and
 
WHEREAS, The Department Senior Vice Commander will be elected annually; and
 
WHEREAS, The Department Senior Vice Commander may serve two annual terms could enhance the efficiency, productivity, and increase the stability of the office of the Department Commander; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED:  By the Department Constitution and Bylaws Committee, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on February 8, 2020, That the first sentence of Article VII, Section 1; Department Officers of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution shall read; “Section 1. At the Department Convention, a Department Commander and Department Senior Vice Commander shall be nominated and elected by the whole body, they cannot serve until properly installed at the same Department Convention. The Department Commander and/or Department Senior Vice Commander will be limited to two terms in office, and they will run consecutively.  At the Division caucus conducted during the annual Department Convention, there shall be a Vice-Commander for each of the three grand divisions nominated and elected, who cannot serve until properly installed at the same Department Convention.”
