Resolution: 2020-23
Title: Amend Article II, Department Officers, Section 2(a) of the Department of Tennessee Bylaws
Origin: Department Constitution and Bylaws Committee
 
WHEREAS, An elected Senior Vice would serve as the Department Commander’s protégé; and
 
WHEREAS, The delegates will have a voice as to whom will serve in this this capacity; and
 
WHEREAS, The Department Senior Vice Commander will be elected annually; and
 
WHEREAS, The Department Senior Vice-Commander shall act as a representative of the Department Commander on all matters so referred to them; and
 
WHEREAS, Shall, on the request of the Department Commander, preside over meetings of the Department Convention or Department Executive Committee; and
 
WHEREAS, Shall perform such other duties as are usually incident to said office; and
 
WHEREAS, In the event the Department Commander shall be absent from the state or for any other reason be unable to serve temporarily; and
 
WHEREAS, The Department Senior Vice-Commander shall assume such the duties of the Department Commander; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED: By the Department Constitution and Bylaws Committee, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on February 8, 2020, That Article II, Section 2. (a) of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Bylaws shall read; “Section 2. (a) DEPARTMENT SENIOR VICE COMMANDER: The Department Senior Vice-Commander shall act as a representative of the Department Commander on all matters so referred to them, and shall, on the request of the Department Commander, preside over meetings of the Department Convention or Department Executive Committee, and shall perform such other duties as are usually incident to said office.  In the event the Department Commander shall be absent from the state or for any other reason be unable to serve temporarily, the Department Senior Vice-Commander shall assume such the duties of the Department Commander, until Department Executive Committee meets or until Department Convention, whichever comes first, elects or appoints a successor Department Commander.”
