Title: Amend Article IX of the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Tennessee Constitution

WHEREAS, The Sons of the American Legion, Detachment of Tennessee Constitution and Bylaws were last revised June 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Sons of the American Legion National Constitution and Bylaws were last updated October 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Constitution and Bylaws may be amended at any Detachment Convention by the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the registered delegates, and

WHEREAS, The current Detachment Constitution does not address a date for which Squadron Officers shall be certified to The Department; and

WHEREAS, The Department of Tennessee Constitution and Bylaws calls for officers to be certified five days prior to the Department Convention; and

WHEREAS, The Sons of The American Legion, Detachment of Tennessee shall conform with the Sons of The American Legion, National Constitution and Bylaws; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, by Squadron 146, the Sons of the American Legion, Detachment of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on February 6, 2020, recommends that Article IX, Section 8 be added to read as follows; All Squadron officers for the ensuing year shall be certified to The American Legion Department of Tennessee headquarters, no less than five business days prior to the announced date of the Detachment Convention. Certification shall be made on forms furnished or prescribed by the Department of Tennessee; provided that no squadron and or squadron delegate shall have voting rights until such election and certification.
