VOLUME XXXVII, NO. 1 MAY 1, 2024
As we approach the Department Convention in June, we wanted to take a moment to thank our Department Commander Lanny Culver. He has been our Department Commander for two years. He answered everyone's call when called upon. He is a great Commander and is truly going to be missed.
From The Department of Tennessee
Senior Vice Commander
February 2024, I attended the 4th District and 5th District Oratorical Contests. I’m always in awe of these young men and women and their abilities to perform in public and their knowledge of our Constitution.
March 2024, I attended the Middle and East Tennessee Oratorical Contests, as well as the Department Oratorical Contest. Congratulations to Abigail Whicker for winning the state for the second year in a row. She is a very talented young lady and I hope she does well at the National Contest. I also participated in the first Be the One training offered by Columbia University. I found it to be extremely informative. It only takes about 90 minutes and will be available again several times. To find available training check legion.org Be the One training.
April 2024 was very busy. I was invited to visit Post 46 Cookeville, 163 Crossville and 135 Cookeville. I enjoyed the meetings and visiting with the different legionnaires and legion family members. I participated in the East Tennessee Basic training at Maryville Post 13. There were over one hundred people present. I have participated in several basic training classes, but none as well attended as this one. Congratulations to 1st, 2nd and 3rd District Commanders, as well as East Tennessee Division Vice Commander for getting the word out. We conducted District Conventions in the 5th District, 4th District, and 7th District. I missed the 6th District because of an automobile accident I was involved in Friday night while returning from the 4th District Convention in Sparta. I was too sore to make the 6th District Convention in Dover. I would like to congratulate Royce Fowler 4th District, Glen Baggett 6th District for their elections, and Vincent Cuevas 7th District for his re-election. I was disappointed that there was no election for the 5th District Commander. I can only hope that someone will step up for this leadership position. Gary Crockett was elected as 7th District SAL Squadron Commander. We conducted the 1st, 2nd and 3rd District Conventions. They elected new District Commanders in the 1st and 3rd Districts and re-elected the 2nd. We also conducted each District SAL District Commanders. Congratulations to District Commanders Scott Foulks 1st District, Mike Testerman 2nd District and Dwight Woodcock 3rd District. Congratulations to SAL District Commanders Richard DelConte 1st District, Eric Suttles 2nd District and David Cutler 3rd District. I am confident that these new Commanders will do well, and they have my full support.
Respectfully submitted.
John A Davis, Senior Vice-Commander
