Important Point  

  • Dues collected by an American Legion Post are for all three levels, Post, Department and National. 
  • A member's annual dues are not considered paid until paid at all three levels, thus the need to transmit dues weekly to Department or National if using myLegion to transmit dues.
  • Collecting a member's dues at Post level and failing to transmit Department and National Dues within 30 days as stated in National Constitution​, Article X, Sections 3.1 and 3.2 is "illegal."

Renewal Notices are Mailed To Members By "National" Based on the
Cutoff Dates in the "left column indicated above". 

Members may also renew online to include "automatic renewal" at www.legion.org/renew.

Transmittals not received by the cutoff date may not prevent a subsequent renewal notice from being delivered at or around the renewal date. Please note, renewals transmitted and received by the cutoff will be updated prior to printing renewal notices, assuming they can be successfully scanned. Membership that must be hand-keyed (new members and renewals that can’t be scanned) will take longer to process. Please transmit as early and as often as possible in advance of the Target Dates to help avoid delays in processing

Prevent Duplicate Renewal Notices from National and reduce the cost of additional mailings. Please transmit Dues to Department Headquarters weekly and before the predetermined cutoff dates above.

Membership Dues Are Pavable in Advance of The Legion Year!

Dues for 2026 should have been paid No-Later-Than October 20, 2025.
If 2026 Dues Were Not "Paid-On-Time." Your Membership is:

DELINQUENT - IF NOT PAID BY JANUARY. 1, 2026

SUSPENDED - IF NOT PAID BY FEBRUARY 1, 2026

FORFEITED - IF NOT PAID BY JUNE 30, 2026

Each Post will transmit $38.00 to Department: Department dues ($14.50) and National Membership dues ($23.50) for each member either via myLegion or transmittal by mail.
